5 quick ways to save with grocery shopping while being on a budget and frugal
Ah, here we go again! Being frugal and on a budget.
Let’s talk about frugal first and foremost. Everyone has a different concept of frugality. I consider frugal to be thrifty on a budget. You do not have to be spending a ton of money, but you also do not have to be spending so little your food is bland. You should still be living your life while on a budget and being frugal.
Want to know my secret to saving money?
Meal prepping! It’s my secret to everything. Meal Prepping is perfect, because you are able to do things the way that you want to do them. You plan out your meals in advance including snacks then presto! You’ve got yourself a grocery list!
My Meal Prepping Google Sheet is fantastic! Add in your ingredients then transfer them to your grocery list. Sort the list and as you are in the store, you’ll be able to mark off what you want or don’t want.

Life is about finding a way. With gas prices the way that they are and I don’t think that they are going down anytime soon, we need to find ways to save. Just because it’s food, doesn’t mean that it needs to be way over the top expensive.
1. get coupons in store
Stores want to help you! There are usually ads at the front of the store. Do not feel ashamed for grabbing them and looking at coupons! Coupons are there to help you and to save you money. I like to look at my Google Sheet while in the store and adding quick meal planning with some of the product on sale.
2. use leftovers in meal planning
You do not have to throw away your leftovers! Dedicate a day or two in the week for Meal Planning! For instance, you make a casserole or a bake on Sunday or Monday then Tuesday/Wednesday is your leftover day then you repeat.
3. get good containers for storage
Food will go bad! I mean… will. You have to prepare your food the best way that you can! I recently purchased some BPA free fruit and vegetable containers on Amazon! I’ll do a video on these later, but the basically these are able to do a two-tier storage and the cool thing is that there is a bottom area that is DRAINABLE!!! I have put my watermelon in this and it was fresh a week and a half later!

4. learn frugal meals!
So as I said, frugal doesn’t mean that you are working with bland ingredients. You just need to enhance what you have. We will discuss some frugal meals in reels and on here in the future, but as of right now. I have some quick tips!
Staple foods: rice and beans can be used. Add in some meat (check with your local store to see if they have a sale coming up). I highly HIGHLY recommend that you save space in your freezer for meats and you get a quality meal sealer to keep it fresh and from freezer burn. This is the meal sealer that I recommend by FoodSaver!

5. Learn Meal Prepping
Like I said, Meal Prepping is a game changer. After you’ve got your products in place this is the last of it. Use our Google Sheets doc to write down your meals on a weekly basis and then switch the ingredients over to your grocery list. Mark off what you need to as you do it while you are at the grocery store. Pro Tip: You don’t need a piece of paper, you can use this on any device that can access Google Sheets!

After you have your meal prepping and grocery list done, you need good containers! I like to use these by Amazon. They are dishwasher safe (top rack), microwavable, and CHEAP for 50 of them. $27 (at time of this posting) for 50. Easy to use and store!

Now if you can afford something a little more expensive with more durability (because the plastic containers will eventually get wrecked and you will have to toss them). I recommend Rubbermaid.
